27 TEAM EISENBERG Meet Kelley Rice Kelley Rice began her relationship with running only a few years back. She weighed 220 lbs and couldn't even run around the block. She was faced with the reality of her need to get healthy as close family members and friends battled life threatening gastrointestinal (GI) cancers. Kelley became interested in nutrition and used it to transform herself. Along the way, Kelley was introduced to the Harold E. Eisenberg Foundation. The organization's mission hit home for Kelley, as both her aunt and best friend's father passed away from GI cancers. For the last three years, Kelley has run on behalf of Team Eisenberg in honor of these individuals, raising a total of over $16,000. When reaching out to her network for financial support she discovered just how many people have been personally affected by GI cancers (which account for 20% of all cancers), and the cause quickly became even more personal for her. Kelly finds out she ranked 3rd in her age group! Kelley recently completed her second 50-mile Endurance Challenge. She finished third in her age group and raised over $100 per mile. She's now training for her third Chicago Marathon in October, as well as the upcoming Milwaukee Marathon. If you're going to do an extreme physical endeavor, make it meaningful, picking a cause makes it so much more meaningful. If it's something bigger than just yourself, that's what gets you through it. — Kelley Rice
